As Signal, we use Mars not as a science fiction fantasy—but as a powerful lens for exploring how societies are built, broken, and remade. Based on the successful Columbia course Life on Mars, this project engages students in immersive simulations and collaborative decision-making challenges. Participants confront real-world dilemmas: Who leads? Who sacrifices? How do you govern when there is no precedent? By removing Earth-bound politics while preserving human stakes, Mars becomes a uniquely generative space for ethical reflection, civic dialogue, and leadership training.
We are now expanding work into a year-long interdisciplinary initiative, and we are actively seeking partners, sponsors, and funders. If you’re passionate about preparing the next generation to lead in complex, high-stakes environments—on this planet or the next—we invite you to learn more.
